Reputedly the oldest residential dwelling in Richmond, this modest house is now surrounded by the Shockoe Valley commercial district. Dendrochronoly (tree ring dating) suggests that the house was built in 1754. The earliest records of the house date to 1783 in a city land tax book. Samuel Ege lived in the house and was a flour inspector.

The Old Stone House now houses the Poe Museum.
