Several years ago, a train near Burkeville struck a car containing a man, his wife and baby--the man was thrown clear of the crash and was found immediately, but all efforts to locate the woman and child were unsuccessful until the engineer entering the engine's cab to start the train again, sighted the woman with the baby in her arms lying atop the running board of the engine--the woman was stunned but neither she nor the baby was seriously hurt. As told by residents of Burkeville to J. Shefeard Potts, Richmond Richmond Times-Dispatch, Circa 1936 |
