Thomas Jefferson & Martha Caroline Sanders White came in a covered wagon from Georgia, The Civil War began in 1861, and T.J. served as a private in the 8th Alabama Cavalry (Company A) in 1864, and possibly in 1863. He was captured during a skirmish in LaFayette, Georgia, in the pre-dawn hours of June 24, 1864, at age 43. He spent nine months in Camp Morton, a P.O.W. camp in Indianapolis, Indiana, before being exchanged near Richmond, Virginia, shortly before the war ended. Supposedly he was very ill, possibly with pneumonia, for he died shortly after, or possibly before, being exchanged, and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery and marked #365. The date of March 17, 1865 is listed for his death, although that could have been his date of burial or possibly both.
