Hollywood Cemetery - Richmond, Virginia

247 Virginia Military Institute, children/soldiers marched in the rain, through the night to go into battle with the 62nd Virginia Regiment of infantry at New Market, VA. Outnumbered by 2,000 men, they charged 6,500 Union Regulars across the battlefield and routed them from their positions. Ten cadets were killed, 47 wounded. Cadet Rutherfoord was 16.
