He here makes his last bivouac with
thousands of other martyred sons
of the South who sleep around him.

George Pickett monument

On January 11 1860 the American Congress issued a vote of thanks to Capt. George Pickett for his gallant and firm discharge of his duties under most trying circumstances, while he was in command on the Island of San Juan.

Joseph Reid Anderson 's grave.

He enlisted as a private soldier in the arm of the Confederate States of America in April 1861, and rse grade by grade to become Lieutenant-Colonel, Chief-of Staff and Adjutant-General of the Army of Tennessee under General Joseph E. Johnston with whom he served until the end of the War in 1865.
