Post Office and Customs House

The Old Customs House

The old Customs House, later the Confederate States of America, Treasury building and then the Main Post Office / Federal Courts building and now the Federal Courts building. It was one of the very few buildings in the downtown area that was not destroyed by the 1865 fire. It is located on Main Street, between 11th and 12th Street.

Until the 1930s there was an 11th Street. The Old Customs House was expanded, both to the east and west and now covers 11th Street. Only historians refer to 11th Street in their writings for location references.
