An oasis near Sixth and Grace Street , White's served Ice Cream in the front and had a restaurant in the back.

In 1927, after returning from Paris, Charles A. Lindbergh flew Ryan N-X-21 1, Spirit of St. Louis to Richmond for the dedication of the new Richard E. Byrd Flying Field, the oldest (143 years since 1862) flying field airport in the United States.
