Jenny Lind

Jenny Lind, "The Swedish Nightingale," as she was dubbed by show-business master P.T. Barnum, created a sensation and prompted an unprecedented run on tickets when she performed in Richmond in 1850. The best seats in the Marshall Theater went for $105, more than a year's pay for most of the city's residents.
