Evergreen Cemetery

The Sin of Omission

We call on thousands of souls

sleeping at this place,

under the overgrowth and degradation,

to rise up in spirit

and assist those concerned

living to correct this sacrilege.

The Holy cemetery grounds, antique iron fences, granite and marble monuments that serve to strengthen man's ties to loved ones passed and attachment to Almighty God, are to be respected, maintained and loved.

Symbols are meant to remind people of their God, His bounties, His Mercy, and His other attributes. Therefore, places, historical symbols, and monuments in cemeteries serve as reminders and symbols for humanity. They strengthen the bonds of love and submission to God, and are to be respected, revered and remembered, not only as a rite or ritual but also in their true spirit

Shawn Lyman is reaching out to families who have ancestors buried in Evergreen Cemetery who are willing to help clean up and maintain the cemetery. The cemetery is an historic African-American cemetery that is overgrown with greenery and has suffered vandalism. He would like to insure that those resting there receive the respect that they deserve. Contact him if you would like to help with this effort.
