Bookwise: Prepare to be amazed!

Statue of woman with cross

In a forgotten Richmond cemetery,

they stand like sentinels of the past.

"And at last, on some white and wondrous dawn,

we shall reach the fairy isle

where our hope and our dream are waiting us,

and the to-morrows smile"

Old iron fence at Evergreen Cemetery

The old iron fence

overgrown with brier,

muffled in vines

stood faithfully for 100 years.

"My Claudia, it is long since we have met,

So kissed, so held each other heart to heart!"

Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery is overgrown with weeds and vines

Evergreen is a black cemetery.

You are looking at vines

covering graves and markers

of over 5,000 people from 1891.

Shawn Lyman is reaching out to families who have ancestors buried in Evergreen Cemetery who are willing to help clean up and maintain the cemetery. The cemetery is an historic African-American cemetery that is overgrown with greenery and has suffered vandalism. He would like to insure that those resting there receive the respect that they deserve. Contact him if you would like to help with this effort.
