Shawn Lyman is reaching out to families who have ancestors buried in Evergreen Cemetery who are willing to help clean up and maintain the cemetery. The cemetery is an historic African-American cemetery that is overgrown with greenery and has suffered vandalism. He would like to insure that those resting there receive the respect that they deserve. Contact him if you would like to help with this effort.

Hollywood Cemetery

Perched high on the bluffs overlooking the River James, Hollywood Cemetery is a fitting resting place for those distinguished souls buried there. This photographic tour captures not only the beauty of the park-like setting, but the tender emotions one feels as they stroll through these hallowed grounds.

We often visit Hollywood Cemetery, photographing monuments and recording information inscribed on them for inclusion on this site. We will gladly photograph your ancestor's resting place and include it in this collection.

The citizen-soldiers who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South's decision to fight the Second American Revolution . The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. These attributes are the underpinning of our democratic society and represent the foundation on which this nation was built.
